I remember there was a period of well over a decade, spanning 1984–1999 or so, when video game ads would routinely just brutally call their target audience out as a bunch of greasy friendless losers, and literally nobody was willing to question the accepted wisdom that this was how you sold video games. Full-page glossy ads just aggressively shitting all over the very people they were trying to sell things to, because it’s not like y’all have anything better to do with your time, you malodorous cave-dwelling fuckwits.
Sometimes I wonder how the video game industry ever survived its formative years.
